What are chia seeds?

Considered a true super food, chia seeds are produced by a flowering plant in the mint family. They’re high in fibre, protein, calcium, omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium and antioxidants. Available packaged or in bulk at most grocery and health food stores, they’re also one of the easiest foods to incorporate into your diet. Simply toss a spoonful into any meal to boost its nutritional value!

    4-Ingredient Chia Seed Strawberry Jam

    Makes 2 cups.

    Ingredients:

2 cups strawberries, washed + stems removed

2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup

    1 tablespoon chia seeds

1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice

    Instructions:

    1. Transfer strawberries to a medium-sized bowl and mash until desired consistency is reached. If berries are large, you can halve or quarter them before mashing to make it a little easier.

    2. Add honey, chia seeds and lemon juice and stir until combined.

    3. Transfer jam to a sealable glass jar and refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours until thickened.

    Notes:

Use as a base for other jams: This recipe is a great base for your fruit of choice. Simply adjust your sweetener and lemon juice amounts to taste to account for variations in sweetness and acidity.

Food processor: A blender or food processor may also be used to pulse the berries taking care not to over mix.

Storage: Jam may be stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to a week or frozen for up to 6 months.
