4-Ingredient Chia Seed Strawberry Jam. - harvestandnourish.com

This easy, no-cook 4-ingredient Chia Seed Strawberry Jam is the perfect healthy alternative to conventional jams. Fresh and vibrant with just a hint of citrus, it makes everything taste like dessert!

Made with all natural, whole-food ingredients, this homemade strawberry jam is thickened with highly nutritious chia seeds and both refined sugar and pectin-free.

Here’s everything you’ll need to make this Chia Seed Strawberry Jam

  • 2 cups (360 grams) strawberries, washed and stems removed (about 1 pint)
  • 2 tablespoons (40 grams) honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon (40 grams) chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice

What are chia seeds?

Considered a true super food, chia seeds are produced by a flowering plant in the mint family. They’re high in fibre, protein, calcium, omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium and antioxidants.

Available packaged or in bulk at most grocery and health food stores, chia seeds are also one of the easiest foods to incorporate into your diet. Simply toss a spoonful into any meal to boost its nutritional value!

No-cook jam is so quick and easy to make and ensures the retention of nutrients that may otherwise be lost during the cooking process. We love that this recipe is low in sugar, allowing the full flavours of the berries, natural sweetener and lemon to shine through.

This recipe can be adapted easily to include your fruit of choice to produce a variety of jams through the season.

This 4-ingredient Chia Seed Strawberry Jam makes a delicious addition to any meal. Spread it on toast, stir it into oats or yogurt, or spoon it over ice cream for dessert!

Instructions

  • Place strawberries in a medium-sized bowl and mash until desired consistency is reached. If berries are large, you can halve or quarter them before mashing to make it a little easier.
  • Add honey, chia seeds and lemon juice and stir until combined.
  • Transfer jam to a sealable glass jar and refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours until thickened.

Notes

Use as a base for other jams: This recipe is a great base for your fruit of choice. Simply adjust your sweetener and lemon juice amounts to taste to account for variations in sweetness and acidity.
Food processor: A food processor may also be used to pulse the berries taking care not to over mix.
Storage: Jam will keep well in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to a week or frozen for up to 6 months.
